A first castle of Louye is mentioned in the historical annals of Normandy as being one of the last fortresses of the line of defense of Richard the Lionheart against Philippe Auguste. Only a few masonry elements remain of this original fortress, the castle having been completely rebuilt between 1478 and 1508 by the Dreux family.
