In beautiful cycling weather, we took a bike tour along the Castles & Palaces Route on the Lower Rhine. The journey is well worth it for a day trip, so we grabbed our bikes and enjoyed the sunny day in the beautiful landscape. We discovered many sights along the way. Kevelaer lies on the Way of St. James III, which leads from Millingen to Roermond in the Netherlands. The first wayside chapel was built here as early as 1785. In 1949, the foundation stone for the new St. Joseph's Chapel was laid at the corner of Twistedener and Kroatenstraße, replacing the one destroyed in the war. The St. Joseph's Brotherhood, composed primarily of Catholic craftsmen, provided its own funding for the new building. A Corten steel stele next to the chapel reminds pilgrims and visitors of the significance of this path.

Absolutely recommended. Delicious ice cream and a nice place for a break.
