The Obersee in Monschau offers beautiful views of the Rur Valley. The Eifel viewpoint "Grünenthal" near Monschau-Imgenbroich, at an elevation of 490 meters, offers a particularly panoramic view of the valley before the Rur flows into the reservoir. The Eifel viewpoints "Schöne Aussicht" and "Wolfshügel" in Simmerath-Einruhr also offer impressive perspectives of the lake and the surrounding landscape.

The Urft Dam is the oldest dam in the Eifel region and was the largest in Europe when it was commissioned. Since 1905, it has dammed the Urft, a tributary of the Rur River in southwest North Rhine-Westphalia, near Schleiden.
