Copper mining at Tiskasjöberg (Stora Kopparberget) likely began in the 9th century and has been documented since the 13th century. The mine's heyday was in the 17th century, when the Falun mine accounted for two-thirds of the world's copper production. But it wasn't just copper that was extracted; at that time, the mine was also Sweden's largest gold and second-largest silver producer. Because mining was conducted rather haphazardly, cave-ins occurred repeatedly. In 1687, a large part of the mine collapsed. Fortunately, this happened right on Midsummer, one of Sweden's biggest festivals, so no one was killed. The Stora Stöten mine is now 95 meters deep and 350 meters wide. Source: Wikipedia

The tour is well worth it. But beware, it's quite cold down there!

A K90 (hill size 100, normal hill) and a K120 (hill size 134, large hill) ski jump are located on Lungnet. Unfortunately, they are no longer used in the annual international ski jumping competitions because their take-off radii no longer meet the requirements. However, the jumps are still used in Nordic combined events.

Kristine Kyrka is located in downtown Falun, next to Stora Torget Falun (City Square), where the Engelbrekt Monument is also located. Construction of the church in Falun began in 1642 under the supervision of the German-Swedish master builder Hans Ferster, originally Hans Förster. After his death in 1653, Ferster's right-hand man took over the construction for the next five years, until he too died. It was Johan Persson, the chief master builder in Stockholm at the time, who finally completed the construction of Kristine Kyrka in 1660. Six years before its completion, in 1654, the church was renamed The New Church of Falun, as Queen Christina had converted to Catholicism. The church was consecrated under this name in 1655, and it was not until the late 18th century that it regained the name Kristine Kyrka. Further information can be found at: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristine_Church,_Falun About the sculpture on Stora Torget: Engelbrekt by Karl Hjulström from around 1916 Material: Bronze Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson - miner and national hero.
