Today I was lucky enough to be able to take part in a guided tour of the Swedish Parliament. You should know that only guided groups are allowed in. The tours are free and very informative. Prior registration is not necessary. Dates are announced on the notice board.

About half of the island of Helgeandsholmen is occupied by Riksdaghuset, where the Swedish parliament sits. The parliament building was built between 1897 and 1905. It ultimately turned out to be almost twice as expensive as calculated by architect Aron Johansson in 1888.

The huge royal palace is very impressive. The changing of the guard was an absolute highlight for us. The whole procedure took us almost an hour and was accompanied by music from the brass band. (10.5.24)

The castle was built by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger in the Baroque style and designed as a Roman palace. The castle has more than 600 rooms on eleven floors, with state rooms facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard. There are many sights here: the treasury with the imperial insignia, the Tre Kronor Museum, which tells the story of the castle's medieval history, and last but not least the reception rooms with the pompous state rooms. During the summer months, Gustav III's Antiques Museum and the castle church are also open. The changing of the guard and the Slottsboden souvenir shop attract many visitors.
