The original Convent of Santo António was founded in the first half of the 16th century by Capuchin friars from the Province of Piedade, belonging to the religious order of Saint Francis. However, it was in the late 17th century that the building we see today was constructed, located near the first. Today, the structure of the chancel, the nave, and the cloister remain. A beautiful descent to Loulé through the Cerro da Zorra forest.

Loulé is located in a region known as "barrocal", the area between the ocean and the mountains, a peaceful place off the beaten track. Loulé's weekly market is great for buying fresh fish, locally grown seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, bread, honey and meat.

Quiet village, with cobbled streets, fireplaces, springs and the beautiful Queda do Vigário waterfall. In summer, the river beaches of Fonte Pequena and Fonte Grande, which are, in reality, bathing basins on the Alte river, are very pleasant.

The rock massif of Rocha dos Soidos rises about 10 km northeast of Alte. The 467 m high cliffs fall on the north side so the most beautiful view of the massif is from the north side.
