At the moment 10/24 the bridge was closed for work. During the time of Roman occupation there is said to have been a bridge over the Rio Arade in Silves, where Roman roads crossed at that time. The current structure is a reconstruction from the second half of the fifteenth century. The sandstone bridge, which is around 75 metres long and 4.5 metres wide, rests on five round arches and has only been used for pedestrian traffic since 1950.

Silves is a nice town, with an interesting castle and several nice cafes. Worth a trip. We passed through on our bikes and then returned on a rest day to visit the castle and stroll through the streets and have lunch.

Great cafe. Very friendly welcome. Recommended.

The highest mountain in the Algarve is recommended in any weather and when it's nice you have a great view!
