Since 2018, the sea dike in North Friesland has been home to a pumping station: De Heining near the village of Marrum. Thanks to a fish-friendly design and a fish passage, glass eels, silver eels, and three-spined sticklebacks can safely reach the other side of the pumping station. This is especially fantastic news for the eel. From the top of the dike, you have a beautiful view of the salt marsh.

The Dike Temple at Marrum is a unique work of art that symbolises the connection between the Frisian landscape and the Wadden Sea, with a view of the dynamic coastal area.

The Poartewente owes its name to the adjacent gate, which forms the connection between the Vrijhof and the church and cemetery, which are located behind the Vrijhof. Conversely, in the early 19th century, the residents of the building also derived their name from the gate.
