The Herperduin nature reserve is approximately 400 hectares in size. It used to be a moorland and drifting sand and agricultural area, but from the late 19th century it has been planted with Scots pine to capture the drifting sand and provide mining timber. In this area you will find beautiful forests, drift sand remnants and a few lakes, namely the Klompven and the Groot Ganzenven. It is wonderful walking. cycling and equestrian. The nature island of Keent is located between Grave and Ravenstein. During the canalization of the Maas in 1934, a river bend was cut off here, causing Keent to suddenly end up on the Brabant side of the Maas. This old 'Maas meander' has now been excavated again, mainly to limit the risk of flooding. Keent has thus become an island where you can stroll through a landscape of marshes, grasslands and floodplain forests. Large grazers, including the special Tauros species, keep the forest formation within limits. During the LF Maasroute you cycle across the island of Keent.

Highly recommended alternative to get off the dike for a while (and back on it later though). Unless you want to pop. That is better on the dike. In this beautiful nature reserve the tranquility and the horses and cows dominate, with a very large bull ;-).
