Küblingen can look back on a long history. As early as 966, the place was first mentioned as "Cugelinge". Historical sources show that Küblingen, as a royal court, was an important stopover on the west-east route from Aachen to Magdeburg. In the heart of the village stands the Church of St. Marien, which can be seen from afar. Initially there was a parish church at this location, but in the 14th century a Marian chapel was built at the same time, which was used exclusively for Marian worship and became a place of pilgrimage. Just a century later, there was no longer enough space and the chapel and church were connected. This gave the Marienkirche its unique shape with two naves pointing in different directions (to the east and to the south). Due to the shape of the church, in earlier centuries the people of Kübling celebrated the church services separately according to gender: the men sat in the southern nave, the women in the eastern one. Thank goodness that has changed nowadays. Especially on high feast days and special occasions, the places in the church are well filled. Especially, of course, at the annual Marian festival around the church. Since its reorientation a few years ago, this festival has become more and more popular and has become an integral part of cultural life in and around Schöppenstedt. In addition, the MGV Küblingen delights a large crowd of listeners with the choir concert every year.
