The Kraaijenbergse Plassen form an extensive lake area of over 400 ha. The lakes are located in the municipality of Land van Cuijk. The lakes have been created since 1968 by the extraction of industrial sand, gravel and clay. You can cycle and walk around the lakes and there are many water sports to practice. There are several catering establishments around the lakes.

My absolute highlight in this area - small but beautiful. Pure nature - suitable for hikers and cyclists.

Beautiful place with history and an old town worth seeing, located directly on the Maas.

Cycling through Grave you imagine yourself in another time. The medieval alleys and vistas, paved with cobblestones, are full of historic buildings that have been tastefully decorated by the middle class. The friendly atmosphere makes you almost forget that you are cycling in the most besieged city in the Netherlands. During the Eighty Years' War, Grave formed the gateway to the Republic of the Netherlands. Here was the border between Spaniards and Catholics on the one hand, and the Dutch and Protestants on the other. Fortified town of Grave is part of the Zuiderwaterlinie. Ham gate As early as 1309 there was a gate to the De Ham area. But the Hampoort we know today has been there since 1688. When Willem III captured Grave from the French years before, it was done with heavy artillery. That is why new fortifications had to be built, including the current Hampoort in Grave. Two battalions of foot soldiers could fit in the gate spaces. If no troops were stationed in Grave, the gate was simply a city gate. Now it can be visited as the Museum of Grave. Crown work Coehorn Menno van Coehoorn built the Kroonwerk Coehoorn around 1700 in the flood plains of Nederasselt, in order to defend Grave. It became part of the Southern defense line of the Republic, the Zuiderwaterlinie. There was a moat around the crown work, and a pontoon bridge was built over the Maas. The crown work replaced older, smaller defenses. Such as the Verloren Cost lunette that the Spaniards built there in 1586, and a hornwork by the Staatsen. Are you planning to cross the Meuse to see it? Unfortunately: only a few wall remnants and boundary stones remain as a shadow of a bygone era. During the LF Maasroute you cycle through Grave.
