Here in the Lohner Hopener Forest 🌳🍁🌲🍄 there are several opportunities for hiking. The fauna and flora 🌳🌲 are simply amazing.

An old privately owned moated castle. Nice playground and a small lake nearby. There is also a beautiful forest area for cycling and hiking.

The old castle has seen many owners. From 1591 to 1793 the castle was owned by the Lords of Haren, and the Counts of Galen lived here since 1805. After the end of the Second World War, refugees were housed here. In 1948, Graf von Korff called Schmiesing-Kerssenbrock became the owner. The moated castle was used as a youth hostel until the mid-1950s. The property has been privately owned by the von Kerssenbrock family again since 1964. The site of the former Hopen estate with 60 hectares of beech, oak and coniferous forest developed as a special local recreation area. Hopen Castle is an attractive starting point for walking and hiking in nature. Protected by a moat, the castle from the end of the 15th century is a historical monument. It came into the possession of the Counts of Galen in 1805 and is now owned by Count Kerssenbrock, a branch of the von Galen family.
