The Salzgitter-Bad concentration camp was set up in September 1944 by the SS and the Hermann-Göring-Werke as a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp in Salzgitter-Bad. About 500 women were housed in four barracks in Salzgitter-Bad in a former "civilian workers' camp" number 43 run by "Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf AG". They had been transferred to Salzgitter from the Ravensbrück and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps. They were used in armaments production at the "AG für Bergbau- und Hüttenbedarf", a subsidiary of the Hermann-Göring-Werke, and in the supplier company "Kleineisenwerk Salzgitter". Among the women were numerous Poles who had been arrested during the Warsaw Uprising. (Source: Wikipedia)

The school forest in the district of Wehrstedt is around one hectare in size. A stream and the pond are integrated into this area. A forest working group made up of 16 schoolchildren spends two school hours every Tuesday on various jobs and projects in the forest. A compulsory elective course "Forest" in year 6, the annual forest day, project days, class trips and parent-pupil meetings take place in the school forest as well as experiential educational projects.
