Blekkers Hofcafé in Uelsen is located in a beautifully restored, historic farm that is now part of a social housing and work project. In the atmospheric café – where the hay used to be and the cattle stood – you can enjoy home-made cakes and regional products, often freshly harvested from their own garden.

The Bronze Age farm is a prehistoric farmstead from the prehistoric Bronze Age 2200-800 BC. The impressive farmstead was reconstructed in close cooperation with the municipality of Uelsen, the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation and other partners. It offers insights into the life of our Bronze Age ancestors with their animals from a farm on the Riedberg south of Uelsen.

The hallmark of the Reformed service is the singing of psalms. The sermon is considered the most important part of the service. The church community is characterized by the emphasis on the Word of God and the underlining of the doctrine (confirmation only at the age of 16/17). Around 6,500 members belong to the Protestant Reformed Community of Uelsen.

On February 17, 1683, lightning destroyed the church tower. The bells melted and fell through the vault. As a replacement, a small bell weighing 127 pounds was purchased in Amsterdam. This bell now hangs in the bell tower of the new town hall. Of art-historical interest are the stalls in the choir and the pulpit with the Old Dutch inscriptions, such as DIE TO DER DORE HENINGEIT DIE IS IEN HERDER DE SCHAPE (Whoever walks through this door is a shepherd of the sheep). Sermons were preached in Dutch until the 1990s, and it was not until 1917 that spiritual songs began to be sung in German.

Uelsen Ref. ChurchThe Evangelical Reformed Church is the oldest building in Uelsen and also the town's landmark. The lower parts of the now 52-meter-high tower are Romanesque, the nave and the west portal are Gothic. The beginnings of the Christian faith in Uelsen are dated to the 7th century. In 690, Willibrord, the later Archbishop of Utrecht, came to the area of today's Netherlands to carry out missionary work. Among his companions was a monk named Werenfrid, who is considered the founder of the Uelsen parish. In earlier times, the catchment area of the Uelsen parish is said to have extended from Emlichheim to Nordhorn. With the document from 1131, the church is placed under the control of the St. Peter's Chapter in Utecht. In 1588, the Reformed faith was introduced in Uelsen and the altar, crucifix and pictures were removed from the church building. From then on, the proclamation of the Word of God alone was to determine the worship service.
