The portrait is of Malcolm Wright, a lifelong Lowestoft resident and former sea worker. Gillian Allard first photographed him at a bus stop in Pakefield in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 lockdowns began. During lockdown, Allard began experimenting with a technique to bond photographic images onto concrete surfaces—a method suitable for outdoor, weather-resistant installations. This was a new direction for her, inspired by the limitations and opportunities of the pandemic.

Past all the moored river cruisers, looking across towards the park. There are a couple of cafes to stop at if you're minded.

Quayside cafe serving paninis, sausage rolls, cakes & coffee etc. Seating is on outdoor tables. Opening hours are 10am-4pm but are weather-dependent so only a place for a fine day.

Enclosed outdoor space with picnic benches facing the river (admittedly across a road & fenced yard). Be careful with the polished floor inside in your cleats, but a great range of food as well as cakes and pastries. Open 9am-3pm every day.

Nice views of the cruisers on the Waveney although the road pinches as it crosses the bridge so you can't stop to admire them.

Not easy to access with a bike as reaching it involves either going down a set of steep steps or walking down a long ramp and then several hundred metres' along the promenade.

Great selection of freshly prepared food, hot & cold drinks also ice cream is available too. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Secured bike at rails out the front of cafe. Opening hours 09:00 - 15:00

The sea wall is a nice ride for the view.

Running over the old iron bridge you will be treated to boating views along the River Quay. A stone bridge crossed the river before but it was too narrow for newer, grander boats to pass under so this was built as an upgrade in 1884.

The River Waveney runs from Redgrave in Suffolk to Breydon Water, Great Yarmouth and acts as the boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk. From Beccles bridge it is tidal so has a very different feel beyond this point.

The Ness Park is on the original Lowestoft fishing village site. A nice rest stop which brings down to Ness Point the most easterly point in the UK. https://www.lowestofttowncouncil.gov.uk/local-information/the-ness/

Of all the bridges I've ridden over this is definitely one of them!
