The Waldapotheke (Forest Pharmacy) in the Deister hills near Egestorf is a charming, traditional inn whose name derives from a historic shelter dating back to around 1900, which later became a forest inn – hence the somewhat unusual name "Waldapotheke" (Forest Pharmacy). The inn is a popular meeting place for hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers in the Deister hills and impresses with its regional cuisine, cozy atmosphere, and location directly on the hiking trail. The name plays on the word "Apotheke" (pharmacy) and the original rest stop where workers and visitors used to meet for a drink and refreshments – a kind of "prescription" in the forest that gave the inn its unique name.

The forest inn in the West Deister region is actually called "Zur Heisterburg," but in local dialect and among hikers, this stop in the Deister region is known as the Devil's Bridge. The old devil's bridge over the Grover Grund (Grove = a small, deserted village above Rodenberg) has long since disappeared. But the Devil's Bridge is constantly being rebuilt.
