The Löns Tower was built in 1928 as an 18-meter-high viewing platform made of sandstone blocks on the 444-meter-high Kanstein mountain in memory of the local poet Hermann Löns. The surrounding beech trees grew so well that the viewing platform disappeared into the treetops. In 1972, the tower was raised by 5 meters using a steel structure. In 1995, the tower was completely renovated and raised a second time thanks to donations. The tower is always open to visitors and is staffed for special occasions. The Witches' Kitchen at Kanstein in the Thüster Berg is an impressive rock formation in the Weser Uplands of Lower Saxony. The Löns Tower stands atop the Kanstein hill in the Thüster Berg region and is a popular destination in the Weser Uplands. This stone observation tower was erected in honor of the local poet Hermann Löns. From its platform, visitors can enjoy panoramic views across the wooded hills and the Leine Uplands. The Kanstein itself is impressive with its striking limestone cliffs. Hiking trails lead through quiet forests up to the tower, making it a worthwhile destination.
