Quintessential traditional country pub, in a lovely village setting with a nice pub garden behind and some more seating to the front.

Past all the moored river cruisers, looking across towards the park. There are a couple of cafes to stop at if you're minded.

Quayside cafe serving paninis, sausage rolls, cakes & coffee etc. Seating is on outdoor tables. Opening hours are 10am-4pm but are weather-dependent so only a place for a fine day.

Nice views of the cruisers on the Waveney although the road pinches as it crosses the bridge so you can't stop to admire them.

The Locks Inn occupies a riverside setting at the end of the navigable section of River Waveney. Having almost closed down in 2020, today it is a community-run establishment with over 1,500 shareholders! It serves a range of good pub grub and roasts on sundays.

The Wherry Inn is a great option for a pitstop on any walk in this part of the Broads. It serves traditional English pub food and has a range of refreshments available too. In summer, you can enjoy drinks in the courtyard and beer garden, while in winter there's the option of getting snug and warm by the open fire.

After you cross the bridge it looks like private land but it’s totally fine and a public footpath

Enjoy a picturesque stretch of walking along a section of the scenic Anglers Way near Beccles.

The Locks is a waterfront pub so watch the little people by the river

This is a marvelous pub and huge garden its web site says The Locks Inn is a remote riverside pub at the limit of the navigation on the River Waveney on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. It is also accessibly via a long track from Station Road in Geldeston. The track is rutted and needs carful riding BUT its well worth the effort. In 2020 it was put up for sale by auction at very short notice and its future as a pub looked in serious doubt. But the community pulled together and managed to purchase the pub and set it up as a Community Benefit Society. Almost 1600 people are now shareholder members of this iconic pub giving it the widest ownership of any pub in the country. The Locks is is a family friendly pub with good food, quality ales from local breweries and a wide range of musical events. Good range of beers and zero alcohol lager on draught - which is unusual. Tea and coffee avaivable all day from 12 noon. We did not try and food but looks traditional pub fayre 12 to 2 pm. Interesting history of the lock and navigation on the river on an information board. Free mooring if you use the pub for you boat types. One not to miss just because its so unusual, so remote but so busy!!!

Probably best to kayak there from Beccles.

This "Footpath" can get used quite heavily by mountain bikers so be aware. Their generally a good bunch though 👍🏻

Running over the old iron bridge you will be treated to boating views along the River Quay. A stone bridge crossed the river before but it was too narrow for newer, grander boats to pass under so this was built as an upgrade in 1884.

Back in 1986, a hoard of 51 Saxon coins and a Saxon brooch were found in Barsham Marshes by the river bank. An excavation of timber posts dating to 75BC has also taken place in the area.

The River Waveney runs from Redgrave in Suffolk to Breydon Water, Great Yarmouth and acts as the boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk. From Beccles bridge, the river is tidal so has a very different feel beyond this point.

Possibly the best ice cream for miles but only in the busier warner months

A handy kiosk / cafe stop at Beccles Staith. Mostly ice creams and cakes but also sandwiches, sausage rolls tea, coffee etc. Note that there is NO indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating and lots of room for bikes.
