"With Resolution 60/7, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 1, 2005, January 27 was declared the International Day of Remembrance in Rememberance of the Victims of the Holocaust. This date was chosen to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945 and to call humanity to reflect on the atrocities of the past. Auschwitz was chosen because it was the largest of the concentration and extermination camps established by the Nazis. More than 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, were murdered there, and their bodies were cremated. Reflecting on these terrible events should keep the memory of the past alive and serve as a warning for the future." (Rabbi Abraham Skorka)

With the i2030 project (https://www.i2030.de/), the extension of the S-Bahn from Teltow to Stahnsdorf is within reach. From the bridge over the S-Bahn station, the lowered position of the S-Bahn line in the cutting is clearly visible. Behind the S-Bahn station, the route to Stahnsdorf, which has been kept clear for decades, continues. S-Bahn trains will run every 10 minutes on the four-kilometer-long route. Following the positive development of passenger numbers to Teltow, the municipality of Stahnsdorf now also wants to benefit from a direct S-Bahn connection to Berlin. The Prisoners' Column The construction of the Lichterfelde concentration camp subcamp takes place in full view of the public from 1941 onwards. The prisoners have to build barracks, buildings for the camp management and an SS construction yard. The camp on Wismarer Strasse at the corner of Teltowkanal is one of around 80 subcamps of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The 1,000 to 1,500 prisoners from almost all occupied European countries move through Lichterfelde on foot and by S-Bahn and tram to their work assignments throughout Berlin. They do forced labour for ministries, SS and police departments under miserable conditions. They are also exploited by private companies, such as Telefunken in Lichterfelde. Since 2000, the Prisoners' Column has reminded people of their fate.

Almost all along the Teltow Canal there are lovely green spaces with running paths and beautiful views. Sometimes right next to the canal, sometimes a little bit to the side. Ideal for runners.
