The Mangfall was a private river until the middle of the 20th century. The responsibility for maintenance and expansion now lies with the Free State of Bavaria, represented by the Rosenheim Water Management Authority. Since then, the Mangfall has been a first-class water body. The Water Management Authority is currently coordinating, planning and building the necessary and extensive flood protection measures on the Mangfall. This can only be achieved successfully if there is intensive and close cooperation with the citizens and municipalities affected. The overall Mangfall Valley flood protection project is currently estimated at around 155 million euros and is expected to be completed in 2025.
