Great off-road alternative to Hildersham Road to ride from the Roman Road to Balsham and continue onto the Frog End gravel road

This is a great stretch of undulating, wider gravel road, which, toward the south, can be linked up with the Roman Road.

This also is called Icknield Way and extends down hill but it is very rough .

The Roman Road in Cambridgeshire, also known as Worsted Street Roman Road, is a 12.4-hectare linear biological Site of Special Scientific Interest stretching from south-east of Cambridge to north of Linton.

The northern end near Sturmer is narrow and twisting but the surface is fairly decent, especially as you climb away from the junction with the main road, but the road towards Steeple Bumpstead is in poor condition and covered in piles of loose sand and stones. One that’s better for the tourers than the roadies.

Nice wide gravel road. The surface is mostly really nice, but there is a rutted bit in the middle, and some of the gravel can be very loose when it has been dry for a while.

Vegetarian sausage rolls are amazing, even better than the real thing.

This section of the Roman road slopes up gently from the bridge over the A11 towards the B1052. The ground is a mixture of grass and narrow path. In dry weather it is easy to cycle on, after rain it would probably be quite slippery!

Great chunk of brownie and date & walnut cake, with a couple of Cortados to wash it down. Also, owner is a cyclist and she has a set of tools available if you need.

Quick gravel track from Balham to Roman Road

A bit mucky in the wet but delightfully dusty in the dry, this bridleway links the village of Balsham to the Roman Road. Pass between hedges and along field margins as you head south from the village to join the dead straight old road.

Good for road cycling but do watch out for couple of patches of road withe potholes.

Mostly good gravel, just some deep ruts at the beginning

It was a nice unexpected village to ride through, I'd never been before and it was very pleasant. Nice roads too.

A decent gravel road with a few minor potholes, leading from close to Balsham on Fox Road to the north-east, parallel to the road to West Wratting. Fairly flat and easy-going with just a few gradual climbs and descents.

Only been once. But lovely outside seating and tasty coffee
