8月 24, 2025, Ickworth Park
It's a vast, scenic estate to cycle through, mostly on compacted, dusty gravel, but there are chunkier bits in some parts. Entering through Horringer and exiting via Chevington worked for me.

8月 29, 2023, All Saints Church, Chevington
This church is located at the end of the village, just before a lane that leads to Ickworth Park. Fronted by a spacious cemetery, Todos los Santos presents a grandiose appearance from the outside, probably due to its imposing tower and battlements. Of medieval style, although the building dates from the 12th century, the Domesday Book (1086) already mentions the existence of a church in Chevington.

8月 29, 2023, Chevington Village Sign
Here we come across the Chevington Village Sign, which in this instance is placed on a horseshoe-shaped signpost. In the image, Abbot John de Norwold is depicted alongside the Chevington church in the background. It is also adorned with poppies, daisies, and ears of wheat.

8月 28, 2023, Ickworth Obelisk
This monument, also simply known as the Obelisk, was erected in 1817. It can be seen from Ickword House, peeking through the trees of Lowndes Wood. The monument commemorates Frederick Augustus Hervey, the fourth Earl of Bristol and also the Bishop of Derry.

5月 29, 2023, Steady Gradient Effort
Long but steady gradient on a quiet road, 45m top to bottom, offers a good interval effort going up, or an opportunity for a fast descent as the route is fairly straight with good visibility and wide enough for oncoming traffic to pass easily with a gentle run out at the bottom.

12月 27, 2022, Round House
Nestling in an enchanting woodland glade close to Fairy Lake, is this fable-like rotunda cottage. A mini, more folky version of the nearby Ickworth rotunda, it was originally used as a shooting lodge and then a gamekeeper's cottage. The National Trust now rent this building out. Inside, it’s deceptively spacious and can accommodate up to six people and two dogs. Circular shaped rooms give it a real cosy feel, especially when the log-burner crackles in the living room. Although you’ll be tucked away in a sheltered setting, the main house, Italianate gardens and sweeping parklands are all within a stone’s throw. Explore the extensive hiking, running and cycling trails that wrap around the estate and head to Porters Lodge dog friendly outdoor café for lunch. Surrounded by countryside with 1,000 years of history to explore, Bury St Edmunds offers visitors award-winning restaurants, fantastic shopping, annual festivals, and a great day out for families. From the magnificent St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and historic ruins of the 11th century Abbey of St Edmund, to the artisan, independent shops surrounding the medieval grid of the town centre.

7月 18, 2022, St Peter and St Paul Church, Kedington
The pleasant Suffolk village of Kedington is most notable for its beautiful medieval church, St Peter and St Paul. Built on the site of a Roman villa, the church dates from the late 13th century. English poet John Betjeman named it as 'a village Westminster Abbey.' The village is on the route of the Stour Valley Path long-distance trail. Walkers can refuel at the Barnardiston Arms pub, which serves good food. There is no formal accommodation in the village. A short walk to the east is the Plough Inn, which has rooms.

Little Thurlow is a pleasant village on the banks of the burgeoning River Stour. The village is just north of neighbouring Great Thurlow and is home to a pub, the Cock Inn, which serves traditional food. There are a few grand country parks and manors in the surrounding region to explore, including Clare Castle Country Park, Hedingham Castle and Kentwell Hall. The Stour Valley Path long-distance trail passes through the village.

9月 20, 2021, Lady Hervey's Wood Snowdrops
Just a tad over 7km. The longest marked walk at Ickworth but in my opinion definitely the most enjoyable. Plenty of fun to be had in Lady Herveys woods for the little ones!
