Beautifully maintained roadside memorial to Johannes Bartholomeus Jat Van Mesdag, a 21 year old Mustang pilot who died near here in an flying accident. He was born on 3rd October 1923 in Hilversum, Netherlands. Before the war he was studying in the U.S.A., living in Ardsley, Hudson, New York. He joined the Dutch Air Force in Canada and was sent to UK, arriving 17th August 1942. He was awarded his wings on 26th November 1944, joining 64 Squadron on 28th December. Within the Dutch Air Force, his rank was 2nd Luitenant. In the R.A.F.V.R. he was a Flight Sergeant but appears to have been commissioned at the time of his death. He had one kill registered; a Focke Wulf 190 near Frankfurt on 14th January 1945. He was based at RAF Bentwaters, flying North American Mustang Mk III. On 6th March, flying Mustang KH451, it appears he dived out of cloud into the ground a few miles NW of Lawshall. The accident was unexplained and came was unknown. Twisting but steady gradient with a decent surface that allows you to carry your speed through the bends as you drop 35m down to the junction with the main road in the valley.

Open every day but closes for an hour at lunch and only a half day on Sundays.

Located not far from Whepstead's other church, St Petronilla, the chapel of this Baptist church was built in 1844. The building is grade II listed.

A short kick from the bottom then drops slightly before a gentle ride into the village. A nice view down the valley from the initial climb.

Fantastic open view across the narrow valley of the River Glem towards Somerton from the road that follows the ridge between Stansfield and Glemsford.

Fast drop and a short but fairly sharp climb out from either direction. North side is slightly steeper but south side continues further.

Full of history and character, Lavenham just calls out to be explored. It is a wonderfully well preserved medieval village and in its heyday was once of the 20 most wealthiest in the country. Evidence of this is clear throughout the village. There are lots of places to stop to eat and drink or to stay if you are looking for a few days away in Suffolk.

The descent from the market square outside the guildhall down scenic Prentice Street is steep, fast and great fun but ends at a T-junction so be ready to brake hard!
