The Schlitzer Tor is an early modern city gate in the center of Pleinfeld, a market in the Middle Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen. Pleinfeld's landmark is one of three former gates next to the Veiter Tor and the Nürnberger Tor, of which only the Schlitzer Tor still stands today (see Pleinfeld market fortifications). The inhabited building is registered as an architectural monument in the Bavarian list of monuments under monument number D-5-77-161-5 Pleinfeld was granted the right to fortify it in 1486 by Emperor Friedrich.[3] However, the fortifications could only be built several decades later because the imperial city of Weissenburg and the Margraves of Ansbach were reluctant to do so. However, the nearby Sandsee Castle had long had a wall with a moat. Ultimately the wall was built; The gate tower was built in 1548[4] or 1568, depending on the source.[1] It provided access to the neighboring town of Spalt. There are still some remnants of the market fortifications at the Schlitzer Tor. To celebrate the 500th anniversary of Pleinfeld's market law, thespalter gate was renovated. The building is a gable roof structure made of sandstone with a basement and a half-timbered structure on the upper floor. The passage is flat-roofed.
