Hartwald and its surroundings are a 202.5-hectare protected landscape area with the protected area number 1.19.013. It lies on the edge of the Rems-Murr district in Baden-Württemberg, within the municipalities of Fellbach and Waiblingen. At the center of the protected area is the Hartwald (also known as the Hart), a wooded hill approximately 326 meters above sea level.

Probably the oldest of the larger bridges in the Rems-Murr district. During the Thirty Years' War (1643), it was the site of a skirmish between Bavarian and French-Swedish troops. It was filled in in 1975 and partially uncovered again in 2018 for the 2019 Remstal Garden Show.
