I like to make my way to the nearby Monument Cafe for some tea and cake, or a venison burger. All at reasonable prices. Beautiful scenery for miles around 🚴🏼‍♂️

Two very lovely ladies running the cafe. Shopfront and indoors were very cute. There was not much of a variety of choices to eat for me, as I prefer simple bakery (croissants, carrot cake, flapjack etc.) over pies and creamy cakes.

Note that the line runs well below street level and thus needs to be accessed by a longer flight of stairs at this entry point. With a bikepacking load, a better alternative seems to be a ramp on Ambrose Lane, which I only discovered in hindsight.

Well rideable on a gravel bike and includes the Icknield Way (ridgeway)

This Tower was built in memory of Francis Egerton, who was the Third Duke of Bridgewater. Egerton was an expert in inland navigation. He was involved in the construction of the Bridgewater Canal (joining Worsley and Manchester), which is the first modern British canal. He also built the canal joining Liverpool and Manchester. Not only that, but he made 2 million pounds out of these adventures and ventures. Be sure to walk up to the top of the Tower. The views from up there are tremendous.

St. Mary’s Church has a rich and long history, being almost 900 years old. It has been rebuilt and refurbished constantly over the centuries. The Church is one of the largest in Bedfordshire and considered a fine example of medieval architecture. It is the only Grade 1 listed building in Luton. The site of St. Mary’s has been the centre of worship for people in the area for over 1,000 years, and a church was built in about 930 AD by King Athelstan as an act of thanksgiving for victory over the Danes. The land here was owned by the king in Saxon and early Norman times and the church was very richly endowed.

Great place to catch your breath and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

This is a beautiful and quiet place to take a seat and relax or have a gentle stroll through nature.

The Hub is great! Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Clean toilet. Tea and toastie for less than a tenner (1 July 23).

Cycle Hub

This wonderful estate is made up of 5,000 acres (2,000 hectares) of beech and oak woodlands, chalk downs and commons. In spring, bluebells carpet the forest floor and the meadows bloom. The area is managed by the National Trust. There's also a cafe, shop and visitor centre.

Stunning lane leading north from St Albans and towards the Chilterns. Long sections of quiet car free road with some lovely views on both sides.

Nice little downhill section

a short punchy climb.... but a well earned view at the top!

Brownlow café replaced with mobile serving hatches and van; delicious bacon and sausage baps plus fab flat white. Plenty of new benches to catch any available sunshine.
