a cool temple

Just at the foot of this temple is the lake, a great place to stop and have a small picnic, bring your blanket!

Public school-boy favourite for stone-skipping and a spot of fishing on the sly. We had a picnic on the bank - it's a lovely place.

Gorgeous in the autumn, this section of woodland bursts with rich colour. Enjoy reflecting on the gothic temple and strange tree configuration and surroundings (the wood is cultivated, not natural).

Beautiful lake at the bottom of Stowe Gardens by the main entrance. There is accessible paths all the way around too.

Pegg's Terrace is a raised avenue of trees that follows the line of the south ha-ha between the Lake Pavilions and the Temple of Venus. Warden Hill Walk, also a raised avenue of trees, is on the western edge of the gardens, the southern part of which serves as a dam for the Eleven Acre Lake, links The Temple of Venus to the Boycott Pavilions.

One of a pair of pavilions opposite Stowe House, the walkway passing by the pavilion is Pegg's Terrace. The Lake Pavilions stand on either side of the South Front and frame the view from the house down towards the Corinthian Arch. The East and West Pavilions are nearly identical; the only differing feature is the number of steps.

One of the first areas of the garden that visitors may encounter is the Octagon Lake and the features associated with it. The lake was originally designed as a formal octagonal pool, with sharp corners, as part of the seventeenth century formal gardens.
