The Church was attacked by Cromwell and his men in the civil war of 1643. Some of the Royalist garrison had taken refuge there and you can still see the bullet holes in the 15th century door made by the attacking Roundheads.

Swanbourne is a delightful, tranquil village in the Buckinghamshire countryside. There are a number of public footpaths and bridleways that splay out from the village. Its most significant building is St Swithun's Church, Grade II-listed and originating from the 13th-century. The Betsey Wynne is a classy gastro pub that serves food throughout the day. The small market town of Winslow has retained its olde worlde charm. Half-timbered buildings, some dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, stand proud in the town centre. Its 13th-century church is of particular note. It contains unusual paintings of St Christopher and an interesting portrayal of the murder of Thomas Beckett. Nearby is Claydon House, a National Trust managed estate set in beautifully unspoilt countryside.

It was on the site of the current Mansion House that the Parlimentarian forces had their headquarters during the English Civil War of 1642 to 1651. Addington is surrounded by the picturesque countryside of the Vale of Aylesbury. It sits on the Midshires Way long-distance trail.
