At Lake Attersee in Schörfling, the café "Das Klimt" is an ideal stop for cyclists. Located directly on the lake, it invites you to take a break with regional specialties, homemade cakes, and coffee while enjoying the view of the lake and the surrounding landscape. The Raftsmen's Memorial, located at the outflow of Lake Attersee, above the Ager Bridge, commemorates the once-thriving timber rafting and shipping industry. It was erected on May 27, 1984, by the local beautification society. The initial design was created by Hannes Haslecker in 1967, and the second by Professor Max Stockenhuber in 1981. Timber rafting was formerly an important economic factor in the Attersee region. Those interested in learning more about this tradition can admire the fascinating exhibits at the local history museum on Gmundnerstrasse. Visits are by appointment only. The Pile Dwelling Adventure at Lake Attersee. Since June 2011, we are delighted that three of the submerged pile-dwelling villages in Lake Attersee have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From the Neolithic period to the Bronze Age, our ancestors lived here and built their villages on piles. In total, 111 settlements have been recognized as World Heritage sites in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Slovenia, and Italy. In addition to our three treasures on Lake Attersee – Litzlberg South, Abtsdorf 1 and 3 – we also find the settlement of See am Mondsee and an island in Lake Keutschacher See, which have received this distinction. Would you like to immerse yourself in the lives of the first settlers? Or are you interested in life in the Stone Age? Then you can follow in the footsteps of Ötzi and turn back the clock with a pile-dwelling guide. Be inspired and discover the exciting history of our region around Lake Attersee!

Since 2024, the Klimt Center has been run by the Klimt am Attersee Association. Gustav Klimt and Lake Attersee have a long history. The world-famous artist spent his summer holidays between 1900 and 1916 at Lake Attersee, where he created numerous masterpieces inspired by this region. In 2012, on the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt, the Klimt Center at Lake Attersee was opened and over the years has become a crowd puller on the north shore of Lake Attersee. The Klimt theme trail, the Klimt Garden and numerous guided tours and events on the subject of Gustav Klimt at Lake Attersee are part of the cultural offering. After a season break, the Klimt Center will open a new exhibition in 2024 that will enrich the cultural offering around the world-famous artist Klimt during the summer months at Lake Attersee.
