Edwardian country home of playwright, politician and philosopher George Bernard Shaw, with Arts and Crafts features and collection and a Tranquil garden with rolling lawns, vibrant summer borders, a fruit orchard and Shaw’s iconic rotating writing hut. The Bright Star is an excellent pub with garden to sit out. Check it is open as not open on Monday and Tuesdays.

Ayot Greenway is a wonderful off-road link out of Welwyn Garden City toward the Chilterns, which can be subsequently combined with The Nickey Line.

Whitwell is a charming village located near Harpenden in Hertfordshire. Stop at the Bull Inn for a refreshing drink, or visit Emily's Tea Room and grab yourself some delicious cakes or coffee.

Stocking Spring Woods is situated between the villages of Ayot St Peter's and Ayot St Lawrence in Hertfordshire. It's a beautiful place to walk through, especially in springtime, when you can enjoy a stunning display of bluebells.

Nice pub

Pleasant, atmospheric, v old pub, complete with some animal enclosures. Enjoyed a nice meal there.

In the care of the National Trust and open to the public, Shaw's Corner was the home of Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw. In the grounds is the rotating writing hut where Shaw wrote most of his plays after moving there in 1906. from the last weekend in July, the pub is going to open a garden bar for coffee, breakfast buns and there very good homemade cakes at the weekend.

Not open Sunday anymore until 12noon.

Shallow bridge across the river Lea. A great place to paddle on extremely hot days - no better way to cool down mid ride!
