A brilliant pub with great food on a really nice off-road route through this areas. Definitely worth the ride and stop to “rehydrate” and refuel. The tables outside are great for stopping, getting off the bike and recapping the ride.

Also known as Royston Heath, Therfield Heath is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a nature reserve on the chalk escarpment above the town of Royston. Trails here offer glorious views across the valley of the River Cam. The open ground here was a regular haunt of King James I, who would visit the region to hunt.

The attractive town of Royston features on both the Icknield Way and Hertfordshire Way long-distance paths. In fact, its ancient Royce Stone is the official start point of the latter. The town has plenty of places for hikers to stock up on supplies, as well as accommodation options and eateries.

Nice pavilion cafe which is a good stop off before/after hitting the hills above Royston.

The Fox & Duck pub overlooking the village green is as popular as it is scenic.

Grungey looking water tower with a nice green next to it and the village of Therfield, good spot to rest.

The section of the route including Kelshall runs along a chalk ridge with good views

Therfield is a pretty little village nestling in the serene Hertfordshire countryside. With traditional village green, historic buildings, and an excellent pub that serves food, it is a great place to stop for a moment.

I rode this today with my 10 yo son. We both loved it! There’s a bit of everything from tarmac, wooded paths, some ascent where we pushed the bikes and some descent where we went too fast downhill. Nice length. Great views 😄

Good footpath for running or walking. Some roots crossing path, so watch for tripping. Great views! May sometimes meet mountain bikers...

incredibly cliché and all the better for it: pub, church, village green, 18c. houses and 19c. mansions, red phone box repurposed as a book exchange, next to the cricket field. This village is ideally located where nobody has any reason to drive to, making it an ideal destination for cyclists.
