Great place for a break with a good assortment of sandwiches and cakes as well as farm produce. Plenty of seating outside if the weather is good.

Interesting history - lots of old photos etc in the pub. If you have a gravel / mtb you can follow a route behind the pub which goes along the old airfield roads.

Congratulations, you've reached the highest point - for roadies - in the county (the actual county top is ~500m west of you at 147m in Roughway Wood, accessible by a bridleway for our gravel-loving compatriots).

Fantastic view of Audley End House from Adam Bridge. Audley End is a 17th Century mansion that is known as a prodigy house, meaning that it is extra impressive. Often seen on TV on the likes of Antiques Roadshow, the house used to three times the size, if you can believe it. It's a fabulous view as you cycling past, and worth making a detour out of Saffron Walden for.

Bakery & farm shop with large selection of sweet and savoury cakes & bakes, as well as take-out coffee. Indoor seating is mostly upstairs so not ideal in cleats but there are plenty of picnic tables outside if it’s dry. Open 7am-4pm Mon-Sat, 9am-3pm Sun.

Great cycle destination from Herts / Cubs / Beds. Lovely roads to get here

Mostly open views with low/no hedgerows so you can go at a good pace.

Just a couple of blink-and-you-miss-them cottages with a church. The road drops quickly into the village through a narrow, high-banked lane, which can make the uneven surface difficult to see if it's a bright day and you're wearing sunglasses.

Bring something to eat on route and just enjoy the peace

There's a memorial (and small museum) dedicated to the US bomber squadrons who flew from Nuthampstead during the war.
