Nice part of the canal here with picturesque lock.

An evil climb westbound, no plainer way of saying it. Is at its worst between Sawbridgeworth FP 27 and the bend to the right. There's roughly a 65 foot height differential between the two ends.

One of those climbs, westbound, which isn't particularly steep, but it's how long it goes on for.

An awkward climb westbound. Awkward because it's steep, but the cars can get pretty fast, which increases the disparity between your speed and theirs. You will also need to pull out in order to get past cars parked on the road. If you are approaching here from the east, having sat waiting for the gates to go up on the level crossing at the station, I advise letting the queue of cars pass you before proceeding. Easy flowing downhill eastbound, with no parked cars.

A lovely quiet spot free of traffic (apart from air traffic flying into Stansted).

The church is your marker for the start of some excellent local trails. A little climb up to it from the south. Enjoy the porch of the church where you may find some biscuits if you're lucky!

A good stretch and even though I prefer to be on road, I use this when travelling northbound out of Harlow the summer, so as to avoid the climbs on the minor road to the east.

This is a lovely lock located along the River Lea, close to the Amwell Nature Reserve. The area features a lockkeepers cottage and beautiful scenery all around, making it very picturesque. The lock is known to be one of the trickiest to negotiate along the river, so if you're there whilst a boat is passing, you'll be able to watch these savvy boaters navigate their way through.
