Nice cycleway, well used, but not overcrowded and away from traffic noise

At a main crossroads of the Bristol - Bath cycle path, there is this. Mangotsfield railway station. It's now been taken over by nature & is utterly gorgeous! Opened in 1869, and lasting all the way to closing 100 years later, it had a really good run! It goes to show how quickly times were changing in the 19th & 20th centuries. What I love about it is that it's been left there. It's so surreal & beautiful. The platforms are obvious, a similar height to today, and there's a waiting room structure as well. It's all been reclaimed by nature in the last (almost) 50 years. If we allow nature the time and space; it will come back.

Bitton Station part of the Heritage Avon railway Valley line. well worth a stop

This is a brilliant sculpture to look at, large in size located along the main cycleway. As you approach the sculpture it is not clear what it actually is. You have to stop to work out what it is, especially if you are not from the local area

The old railway, which still has some use, widens at this point. Several trains and carriages can be seen parked up. It is part of the Bristol & Bath railway line

Warmley Forest Park is a 27-hectare park in Warmley, South Gloucestershire, England. It is situated on the site of former extensive clay quarrying, and until recently it lay derelict. However, it has since been developed into a popular spot for walking, running, and dog walking. The park has a variety of habitats, including woodland, grassland, and ponds, and is home to a range of wildlife, including birds, bats, and insects. There are also a number of historical features in the park, including the remains of a former railway line and a disused quarry. Warmley Forest Park is open to the public all year round and is free to enter. There is a small car park located at the entrance to the park, and there are also a number of public footpaths that lead to the park from nearby villages. Willsbridge Valley Sculpture Trail follows the Siston Brook upstream from Willsbridge Road.

Opened in 1918 the signal box controlled the level crossing here. The railways closed between 1966 and 1968 but a local chap rented the box and thus stopped it being destroyed. It's now a grade 2 listed building and was restored by the council. Today the friends of the area look after the box, cafe and community garden.

Gaius Sentius is a sculpture of a thirsty Roman legionnaire on the Bristol - Bath cycle way. It was made by Gordon Young in 1992 and commissioned by Sustrans who own and manage this trail. The sculpture incorporates a water fountain if you need a water bottle refill.

Nice place, nice coffee, nice cake

Perfect coffee and cake stop, nice café with garden (and loo when we're not so COVID) or dangle your feet over the platform edge.

Opened in 1869 by the Midland Railway as a through-route between Birmingham and the South Coast the line was later linked to the iconic Somerset & Dorset Railway. Closed under the Beeching Axe of the 1960's the Avon Valley Railway was preserved by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Today, 40 years on, three miles of track has been re-laid, locomotives and carriages restored, and the sound of steam can once again be heard along the Avon Valley.
