Good fast descent from Uffington but do look ahead for traffic before ripping it across the narrow bridge.

When turning out of Uffington to head for the river, look at the gatehouses with their busts of wild men atop the pillars. The wild men are actually crowned saracens who appear on the coat of arms of the Bertie family who built the grand house in the 1680s, which was destroyed in a fire in 1904. So there are gatehouses without a hall not far from this bridge!
