Great spot for a break

A lovely ride along the avenue towards the estate.

I call it a climb... it's Norfolk so more of a bump, however lovely road surface.

The old station that used to serve the line along here that has long since shut down, It is not featured in John Betjeman Goes by Train (1962) but the train would have passed through here. If you're in the area it's worth a stop to check out, it is now a hotel of sorts and you can sleep in the station or indeed the carriage.

Most tourer's will go to Hunstanton as it's the official end/start of the Peddars way, however if you're heading south instead Heacham is a nice beach to stop at and has some interesting features such as an old arcade and casino and an odd little pub with an obsession with the 1950's and blues brothers!

Beautiful examples of Barrow's that have survived quite well mainly due to how flat the landscape is here. They stand proud of the landscape and are particularaly atmospheric at dusk.

Impressive landmark on the northern approach to Hunstanton.

Excellent cafe serving high quality deli food. Courtyard seating as well as tables out front, or indoors if wet. Open 8am-6pm Mon-Sat, 9am-12pm Sun.

Hugely popular upmarket gastro-pub. There are some tables out the front if you want a pub lunch that's a cut above the usual.

Burnham Market and Burnham Thorpe both have a pub named after the area's most famous son. This one shows that marketing cash-ins aren't a new thing: the name was changed from The Mermaid in 1805 to celebrate the connection.

Sitting near the route of the old Peddars Way trackway. Amazing to think that these barrows have seen the Romans, Angles, Vikings and Normans all go by, standing inviolable and immutable.

Pretty little church sitting in a well-tended churchyard.

A small and undistinguished muddy puddle.

Delightful lane, wide but quiet and protected by a grand double avenue of trees.

The beach isn't visible from the cliff road but you do get some great views out across the Wash, with the westering sun if you're here later in the day.

Popular gathering spot above Hunstanton Beach, surrounded by pubs, cafes, takeaways and the usual quota of tourist-oriented stores.
