To the pilgrims lingering before this small sacred monument with its special dedication as a "Cross of Peace"—what more could the world need in these times?—I would like to offer Pope Leo XIV's welcoming words as a small personal encouragement to peace. Immediately after his election, before bestowing the traditional blessing "urbi et orbi" (to the city and the world) on the waiting faithful, he addressed the people gathered in St. Peter's Square, as well as those participating via radio, television, and online media, with these moving words: + "Peace be with you all! Dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd... I too hope that this greeting of peace will enter your hearts, reach your families, all people, wherever they are, all nations, the whole earth. Peace be with you!" The new lookout is a great vantage point over the Wachau! Numerous hiking trails pass by here, such as the World Heritage Trail and the Dunkelsteinerwald circular hiking trail.

The Dunkelsteinerwald is an experience in every season.

As in many places in the Dunkelsteinerwald, here too you have the feeling of walking in a fairytale forest. The highlight is the lookout tower at Seekopf.

Beautiful and modern watchtower with a great view!

Can be climbed by experienced climbers. Incredible view of the Danube and Weißenkirchen. But BE CAREFUL! The rock on the north side is often very slippery!!!

The Hirschwand, or rather the Hirschwandsteig, is well secured with ropes and footholds, but you should still be sure-footed and free from shingles if you want to enjoy the view here.
