Lovely cafe doing breakfasts, lunches, coffee and cake. Nice toilet. Seats outside in the sunshine

Great place to stop for a drink. lovely outdoor garden. beware, they don't serve food before noon.

Popular local beauty spot. There's a cafe overlooking the river next to the rowing boat hire station.

Convenient location, just off the main road as you go under the A12, and open 7 days a week (9-5, 10-4 Sun). Gravel entrance.

Beautiful village on the Stour, the ‘capital’ of the Dedham Vale, with an imposing high street including cafes for a refreshment stop. The descent down through the wide main street from the south-west offers a nice fast run as well!

The bench by the Stour really is a nice spot if you need a stop. There's a tarmac path leading to it if you don't fancy off-roading across the grass.

One of two gastro-pubs in the village. This one is part of a regional chain. Large beer garden is good for a group stop.

It's an ok enough stretch of road although not particularly special. There are many more scenic routes than this fairly anonymous stretch of tarmac.

You know you're in the heart of affluent Constable Country when a village has not one but two gastro-pubs.

Lovely spot with riverside cafe, picnic area and access to walks

The slight elevation of the Tollesbury road gives views clear across the marshes all the way to the buildings of West Mersea rising up on the slopes of Mersea Island.

The best views are going southbound as you descend from the high ground at Layer de la Haye.

Not much to be seen from the road but continue just south of the church and there are good views across Abberton Reservoir.

Nice local cafe by the church green with outdoor seating and bike racks. Open 9-5 except Sundays.

Nice location by a little green square. There's a decent cafe opposite as well.

Various houseboats hauled up on the marshes, including one particularly notable one.

Opening times aren't fully reliable so might be a bit hit and miss but fortunately there are a number of other seafood places nearby if you're unlucky here.
