Writtle has a beautiful traditional village green. Complete with duck pond and Norman church, it's a picture-perfect place for a picnic. The village was once described as "one of the loveliest [...] in England, with a ravishing variety of ancient cottages"

Alternative route to Stonehill Rd when going through Roxwell. Take Greenhill Lane, which leads onto this short, flat segment of gravel path.

Great local country pub with lots of outside space. The only pub called The Viper in the country!

Free parking opposite the pub. Excellent food served here too. Would highly recommend
