King's Castle Woods is a beautiful woodland situated just outside Wells in Somerset where you can get yourself a nice dose of nature. The pathways that wind around the woods afford some wonderful scenery of the surrounding countryside and are home to a variety of wildlife species including deer, foxes, and badgers.

A small, but historical city with lots of amenities and free access to most places.

You can enter part of the grounds for free, the other parts are charged. The building is well maintained and still used and much bigger than it initially appears to be.

Take the route that goes over the top of the viaduct much easier.

Part of the defunct Somerset and Dorset Railway, this viaduct looms out of the trees in pretty Ham Woods. There are a further two viaducts between here and where the line leaves Shepton Mallet, each as impressive as the last. The line opened in the 1870s and was active for nearly a hundred years.

Cool descent on a bit of East Mendip Way and a bit of not. Tree tunnel the whole way down and mostly smooth dirt.

Nice sheltered woodland trail up to a cool viaduct on the old Dorset and Somerset railway line.

The stunning Bishop's Palace has been the home of the Bishops of the Diocese of Bath and Wells for more than 800 years. Construction began around 1210 and continued into the 15th century. The Grade I-listed palace is adjacent to Wells Cathedral, another very impressive building within this historic city. There are beautiful gardens to explore at the palace, too. With cakes, tarts, pancakes, and cooked breakfast, the Loaf Bakehouse is a trendy bakery in the centre of Wells. They are open from 8:30am - 10pm serving breafast, lunch and dinner. Trendy bakery that is nicely secluded in a courtyard. Plenty of seating indoors and out, lots of exterior space for bikes. Good variety of cakes and breakfasts, caters for a range of alterative dietary requirements.
