Rudyard Kipling's estate in East Sussex is a wonderful place that is managed and maintained by the National Trust. Here you can stroll through the orchard, the vegetable garden and the formal garden. Then you can visit the house from 1634 and the old mill, where Kipling had a generator installed early on to supply the house with electricity. Here they are trying to make the garden a perfect place for insects and especially for bees. To this end, a lot of experimentation is being done with flower meadows - you can wander through at least one of them during your visit. The house looks very grand and elegant, but turns out to be a gloomy block inside - as is often the case with these old, historic buildings.
