Although the route suggested by Komoot was good there were some problems in the wooded section between the two railway crossings. The path was closed and therefore needed to find a detour.

Nice Circular Walk using a mixture of Canal towpath fieldpaths and minor link roads.

This junction is where the Birmingham & Worcester canal joins the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and also where you would turn off to follow the Rea Valley Route towards Longbridge and Waseley Hills. Here you will find the old toll house currently being refurbished (2022) and an old hump back bridge which is a great spot to admire the lovely view. Be careful here as the bridge is quite steep and can be slippy. Going up and over the bridge and going along the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal takes you towards Chinn Brook Nature reserve and Earlswood Lakes. Stay on the Birmingham & Worcester canal to get to Hawkesley.

A small but worth a visit NT place, incorporate Packwood house as well for a full day out.

A truly unique place, all the usual bits and bobs at a NT place, but this resembles a castle rather than a house with its own moat fully encompassing it.

Wonderful National Trust property

Kingswood Junction is a major waterways place at the junction of the Stratford-on-Avon Canal (Kingswood Branch) with the Grand Union Canal (Warwick and Birmingham Canal: widened section - Main Line). Lapworth Link Junction is on the Stratford-on-Avon Canal (Kingswood Branch), 1¼ furlongs to the northwest. Budbrooke Junction (Junction of Saltisford Arm and Grand Union Main Line) is on the Grand Union Canal (Warwick and Birmingham Canal: widened section - Main Line), 7 miles and 2¼ furlongs and 21 locks to the east. Camp Hill Top Lock Winding Hole is on the Grand Union Canal (Warwick and Birmingham Canal), 14 miles and ¾ furlongs and 5 locks to the northwest. The nearest place in the direction of Lapworth Link Junction is Bridge No 37; a few yards away. The nearest place in the direction of Budbrooke Junction is Weston Hall Bridge No 64; 2½ furlongs away. The nearest place in the direction of Camp Hill Top Lock Winding Hole is Kingswood Bridge No 65; 1½ furlongs away.

Opened in 1807 this humpback bridge is a lovely spot to grab a good view of the canal junction. Be careful it can be slippy when wet.

The Kingswood Arm is an extremely short section of the Stratford Canal, linking it with the Warwick & Birmingham Canal (now the Grand Union Canal). Length 0.25 mile The branch includes one lock (numbered 20), but a few years ago a direct connection was reopened to the short pound between locks 21 and 22 of the southern Stratford.

The engine house is Grade II listed and was built to contain the original beam engine that pumped water from the reservoirs up to the higher level of the feeder river. It has been in continual operation since 1823, though in 1936 the beam engine was dismantled and replaced by the electric pumps. You can see the in-fill brickwork where the chimney was removed, marking the arrival of electricity. The building is typical of an engine house; one tall narrow room for the beam engine and lower storey ancillary rooms surrounding it. For this particular engine house the lower storey extension was added post 1846, when the canal was taken over by the Great Western Railway Company due to the decline of canal usage. This is telling in other details such as the workshop bench made out of railway sleepers and the reclaimed platform edging bricks on the stairs. The wooden beams for the upper floors are visible in between the brickwork and you can also see the structural ties that were added after construction, as the building needed more support to cope with the vibration of the machine.

The Earlswood Lakes were constructed in the 1820S to provide water to the Stratford upon Avon canal. Construction took nearly 5 years to complete, and the labour force included prisoners of war from the Napoleonic wars.The cost of construction was £297,000. There are three lakes. The Engine Pool lake cover 25 acres (10 ha). The lakes are fed by tributaries of the River Blythe, and in turn outfall into that river also.

Baddesley Clinton is a moated manor house and country estate set within Forest of Arden. The house was built by Henry Ferrers, a lawyer, diarist and antiquarian, in the late 1500s.
