Longer if you are travelling from the north towards Ardingly but gradual enough to get into a decent rhythm apart from the traffic at peak times.

Outwood Windmill is a Grade I listed post mill located in Outwood, Surrey, England. It was built in 1665 by Thomas Budgen, a miller from Nutfield in Surrey, and is Britain’s oldest working windmill. The mill is a post mill with patent shutters and has four sails. The whole body, weighing around 25 tons, rotates on a central post made of a single enormous oak tree, to bring the mill round into the wind. The mill is still operational and grinds corn when the wind is adequate.

Built in 1898, Reigate Fort is a scheduled monument built as part of the London Defence Scheme. You can look at the exterior of the fort at any time during daylight hours, but to go inside, you must book a guided tour.

Reigate Fort was built on top of Reigate Hill in 1898 as part of the London Defence Scheme, a 72-mile chain of defence that stretched from the North Downs to Essex. It was designed to protect the capital while a huge ship-building programme was initiated by the government One of 13 new military installations in the chain, Reigate Fort was a mobilisation centre, holding cutting tools for clearing trees and digging tools for entrenching, as well as ammunition. If an invasion materialised, trenches could quickly be dug to form the last line of defence for London.

Reigate Fort, interesting stop with very nice views. The Fort was a defense line against invasion, but with a stronger naval force and the introduction of battleships like HMS Dreadnought, the Fort became obsolete and was sold off in 1907
