The railway was built to bring in clay for the dam wall of the nearby Chew Reservoir, completed in 1912.

A wide and mostly flat path surrounded by plenty of trees. There isn't much of a view but the walk is pleasant.

The canal walk lasts for about half of the walk. the views are pleasant and the path is mostly flat.

Chew Road leads into the Chew Valley toward Dove Stone Reservoir and provides the most breathtaking scenery for all those who wander down it. Enjoy vistas of rolling hills covered in mixed deciduous woodland and views as far as the Yorkshire Dales.

Dovestone Reservoir is situated where the Greenfield and Chew Brooks valleys come together above the village of Greenfield on Saddleworth Moor. The reservoir is located at the gateway to the iconic Peak District National Park and is a truly breathtaking location, oozing peace and serenity.

Nestled within the iconic Peak District National Park near Oldham is the Yeoman Hey Reservoir. This reservoir sits amongst three in the area and is surrounded by rolling grouse moorland and high gritstone escarpments.

The middle of the three reservoirs in the Greenfield Valley Yeoman Hey was commissioned in 1870 and completed in 1880. You can walk across the dam which makes a nice circular walk around the reservoir from nearby parking on Alderman's Brow or visit on a longer loop of the three reservoirs and the moors above from Greenfield.

Hartshead Pike stands at 876 feet (267 m) to the east of Manchester. It's a great viewpoint across the city and down the Medlock valley. The hill top has been used as a beacon since at least Roman times, when its prominent position was a useful strategic site. The tower was built in 1751 and then rebuilt in 1863. You used to be able to climb it, but the entrance was bricked up in WW2.

The lower and largest of the three reservoirs in the Greenfield valley Dove Stone Reservoir was completed in 1966. The water is used to supply drinking water to the surrounding area. The lakeside path is a popular walking trail and can easily be combined with a loop of the other reservoirs for a longer day.
