Groombridge Place is currently closed but the walks around it are lovely. Plenty of streams and a pond with ducks and geese. There is also a train track that has old steen trains going past.

As hard as it gets in the South East. Simon Warren gives this a 6/10 (compared to nearby Toys Hill which scores an 8/10). For my money, York's is harder - the last couple of hundred metres are savagely steep at at least 20% on a pretty lousy surface. I can only assume he attempted this after a couple of cans of Red Bull before scoring it a 6!

Groombridge Place is a beautiful country estate complete with sculpted formal gardens, a moated 17th-century manor house and over 200 acres of parkland. The house and its bridges were designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the same architect who re-designed St Paul's Cathedral after the Great Fire of London. Although the house is privately owned, you can visit the gardens. With a pirates playground and treetop walkway, it's also a great place for kids. The gardens are only open during summer. Ightham Mote is a medieval moted manor house owned and managed by the National Trust. It was built almost 700 years ago and houses a collection of interesting objects and art. The property has gardens and a wider estate which you can visit if you wish. It's paid entry unless you are a NT member. There's also a cafe and shop on site which makes it a great place to either start a run or stop at halfway. If you're running here, the most obvious loop starts at Ightham Mote, Knole or Sevenoaks station and follows the Greensand Way. There are lots of other options within the 580-acre (235 ha) estate to explore if you fancy staying local.
