The Eisweiher (Ice Pond) in Emersacker, a district of Welden in the Augsburg district, is an important nature reserve and part of a series of artificially created ponds that were used for fish farming as early as the 17th century. The name "Eisweiher" (Ice Pond) originates from the time when the waters froze over in winter and ice was harvested for the Fugger Castle Brewery, which could be stored in the cold brewery cellars until the following winter. Today, the Eisweiher is a valuable biotope with excellent water quality and a tranquil location, home to protected species such as beavers, kingfishers, newts, common frogs, and yellow-bellied toads.
