Wismar Town Hall, like other Neo-Classical town halls in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, was planned and designed by court architect Johann Georg Barca and built between 1817 and 1819. The east wing was severely damaged during World War II. After the Second World War, the damage was repaired, and the heavy-looking façade was slightly reworked and smoothed in keeping with the systematic architecture of Socialist Neo-Classicalism. Since then, for example, the relief bands of the outer gables have been restored and set off as originally intended. The western section of the new building still retains older vaults and masonry remnants of the predecessor building from the second half of the 14th century.

The former Cistercian monastery has the most beautiful name and is the oldest church. The monastery was a second foundation by Heinrich Borwin I. The original site was Parchow near Neubukow. The monastery was rebuilt and finally established in 1249. Initially a Benedictine monastery, it became Cistercian in 1249.

The town of Neukloster lies east of Wismar on Lake Neukloster. Of the former Benedictine monastery, now Sonnenkamp Monastery, which was founded there in 1219 under the name Campus Solis, only the monastery church, the bell tower and the provost's building remain. The monastery was secularized in 1555 during the Reformation. Afterwards, large parts of the site fell into disrepair. A visit to the monastery church is still worthwhile today. Here visitors will find some of the oldest stained glass windows in northern Germany. They were created around 1250, show various saints and are located in the group of three windows in the choir.
