The lodges, along with the triple-arched gateway, were added to the Burghley estate as part of its expansion along the Great North Road, enhancing the estate's grandeur and providing a stunning entrance.

The Bottle Lodges at Burghley House are a pair of distinctive gatehouses located at the entrance to the estate, built in 1801 to commemorate the Earl of Exeter's elevation to the marquessate.

This is a grade II listed pedestrain bridge over the River Welland, dating from 1881 and built by Stamford Town Council to replace one destroyed by flood in July 1880. It is built out of rubble stone and iron.

The River Welland is a 65-mile (105 km) long lowland river in eastern England, originating in the Hothorpe Hills and flowing northeast to The Wash.

St Martin's Church in Stamford, Lincolnshire, is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church. Historically located in Northamptonshire until 1889, the area it serves is known as Stamford Baron or St Martin's, situated south of the River Welland.

Quit Village with Sandstone Buildings great views & good paths Stamford is a good place to revisit on its own. The river walk was pretty good 👍😊

The Millstone Inn in the village is a cafe as well as a pub.

Open for food and drink seven days a week, The Millstone even has a cut through to the Hills & Holes National Nature Reserve so it's perfect for a drink or something to eat after a hike around the local area.

You may be forgiven for thinking you are in the set of Teletubbies, but this is in fact a National Nature Reserve. Hills & Holes was created through quarrying the limestone use to build Peterborough Cathedral. There are lots of trails to explore around the hills and holes, a really intriguing place.

The Bottle Lodges were built in 1801 to celebrate the Earl’s elevation to the title of 1st Marquess of Exeter. They are based on the surviving lodges for Old Campden Manor, Chipping Campden, built around 1613.

Fryers' Callis almshouse, is dated 1833 and was built by the architect George Basevi, from bequests in the will of Henry Fryer, a surgeon. It originally provided accommodation for six poor widows.

The Bottle Lodges mark the original horse & coach entrance to Burghley House from the Great North Road.

Albert Bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the River Welland at Stamford, built in 1881. The previous bridge here having been destroyed by flood the previous year. It affords nice views towards "The Bridge", the main road bridge connecting North and South banks.

Wothorpe Towers were built between 1615 and 1623 as a detached lodge (dowager house) for Burghley House. It's not currently open to the public as it is undergoing renovation.

The Roman Ford marks Ermine Street's crossing point of the River Welland. This was one of the most important Roman Roads heading North from London, to Lincoln and York. Thankfully you don't need to get your feet wet, as there are a number of alternative, bridge options.
