7月 22, 2025, Chester Cathedral
Entrance fee is £5 per person. Allow yourself some time, as the cathedral is very large and complex. Its cloister and courtyard are very beautiful. Inside the church, there was a replica made of Lego bricks, illuminated, and even a detailed interior.

Sankey Valley Park is a public park in Warrington, Cheshire. It occupies part of the Sankey Valley, and the main park itself covers over 1½ miles between Sankey Bridges in the south and Callands in the north. The valley follows the course of Sankey Brook and the now disused Sankey Canal. The park is enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and anglers, and the central section of the park is family orientated with children's play features, a maze and lawn areas. Bewsey Old Hall (and the Maltings Public House) sit on the edge of the central section of the park. The Trans Pennine Trail passes around 500 yards (460 m) from the southern tip of the park. Love riding through this Village can get a little busy by the church. But it's very picture postcard.

Lovely path from Carr Mill dam to Warrington's Trans Pennine way. Great jumping off point for all my adventures as I live very close to it

The Sankey Canal opened in 1757, following the valley along the Sankey Brook, however was abandoned between 1931 and 1963. The canal has been under restoration since 1985 with the formation of the Sankey Canal Restoration Society. The trail then enters the linear Sankey Valley Park, a lovely green corridor, that has links to the Trans-Pennine Trail and follows a stretch of Sankey Canal and Sankey Brook. Along the way you will pass through woodlands, farmlands, and parkland with scenic paths and chance to spot some wildlife as you wind to Carr Mill where you can enjoy some refreshments. Returning to the start will require more than one bus so check schedules before heading out. While for the most part the paths are well-surfaced but care is needed in wetter conditions when sections can be muddy and slippery. There are also some stairs along the route.

Another grand old historical building. Chester Cathedral, there are many trees in the cathedral grounds, making it difficult to take a clear photo

The Sankey Canal is accompanied by a path that is good for walking and cycling. You are on the path in the middle of nature.

12月 26, 2023, Giant Darts Artwork
On the edge of the Sankey Valley is a publicly accessible work of art made of giant arrows. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find out which artist created it. It may be a Bewsey High School art project. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/FAQ_Answers-g190764-d9820166-t7293061-What_s_the_history_behind_the_darts.html

10月 23, 2023, Chester Cathedral
This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals on show in the whole of the UK. It is simply magnificent! It has a history dating back to 1092 when it was first constructed as a Benedictine Abbey. It took 275 years to transform the building into the beautiful Gothic-style structure you see on display today. The architecture is amazing as is the woodwork craftsmanship. A totally must see if you are in Chester.

Story The city of Chester was already an important place in Roman times (as Castra Deviana). There is an assumption that there was already a basilica in the city at that time. A Benedictine abbey was founded in 1093, and the oldest parts of today's cathedral come from this abbey. The abbey church was not yet Chester Cathedral at this time. In 1538, when King Henry VIII dissolved the English monasteries, the abbey was closed. Three years later, in 1541, the abbey church was made a cathedral by order of the king. While the abbey was still dedicated to St. Werburgh, Chester's patron saint, the cathedral has now been rededicated to Christ and the Virgin Mary. Interior of the cathedral Interior of the cathedral Since the 19th century, the cathedral has been restored several times, and in the 20th century a free-standing tower was built next to the cathedral. In 1922, a memorial to soldiers who died in the First World War was unveiled in the cathedral. Since 1955, the cathedral and the associated monastery buildings have been classified as Grade I buildings. (Source:https://www.wikiwand.com/de/Chester_Cathedral)
