„Today the Salt Line runs through farmland and woodlands, with streams, pools and rough grassland. Wild primroses brighten up the steep cutting at Roughwood Hollow while later in the year the delicate flowers of scabious and harebell can be seen on the banks. Areas of willow and hazel are coppiced regularly. This is an ancient woodland practice in which trees are cut every few years to produce timber that would have been traditionally used for thatching spars, barrel hoops, hurdles and baskets. Sheltered glades are created where flower and insects thrive, until the trees re-grow and the process begins again. Some areas are managed as wild flower meadows while others are left fairly wild and just cut back enough to keep the path clear. One of the flattest gravelly trails I've ever ridden

This brook has clay/ orange discharge due to high mineral content like iron oxide.

Nice tree-lined trail for MTB and Gravel riding. Can be busy with walkers, runners and dogs so take a bell and use it.

The Cat & Fiddle Whisky Distillery stands at the top of the famous climb. There is a bar at the distillery, you can also take a tour or visit the shop.

Great place to stop for a cuppa and essential snackage. Homemade cakes and flapjacks, Eccles cakes prominent on the counter and excellent brews.

An excellent traffic free route, with only a couple of roads to cross.

Macclesfield is a vibrant town nestling within Cheshire countryside. The town was once famous for its thriving silk industry. These days, Macclesfield boasts a weekly artisanal market, independent shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, galleries, historic buildings, a beautiful canal, and much more.
